Cecil Hook’s Freedom’s Ring

Welcome to the new Freedom’s Ring website. The purpose of this site is to make available the writings of Cecil Hook. I first came across Hook’s writings after taking a more critical and objective approach to the things that are practiced, preached, and taught in the many churches of Christ that I became familiar with.

Hook was born in 1918 and spent his life working with and attending churches of Christ, beginnng as a child, then preaching full time and eventually retiring. As years passed, he began to question some of the things that he and others taught. He began writing about these issues in the latter decades of his life until his death in 2007. I first encountered his writings only a couple of years after his death, but while his original website was still up and running.

Hook’s original Freedom’s Ring Website (www.freedomsring.org) went down in 2011, and the articles were no longer available. However, the Internet Web Archive still had copies of most articles from the original website, so I began the process of collecting and reposting them one by one.

It is my hope that you may be able to benefit from these articles. My republishing of Hook’s writing is not intended to be an endorsement of them, but is simply an effort to make them available to any who would wish to read them. I hope that they can ultimately bring encouragement and hope to those who are seeking to serve God.

Mr. Hooks was an amazing, gifted man! I had the honor of speaking with him once via phone. There are so many times that I need some guidence when it comes to the Bible. You are sadly missed Mr. Hooks. God bless whoever is keeping his writings for other generations to enjoy.

    Sincerely,
    Heather
